Fish Farming
VAKI has been a leader in the development and production of hi-tech equipment for fish farming ever since 1986, and for over two decades now its Bioscanner fish counter has been used all over the world for counting live fish in all size categories when they are graded, delivered and sold.
The Bioscanner Micro & Macro counters are used for the counting of small fry and smolts where high capacity is needed and the Bioscanner PLC (Pipeline Counter) is specialised for situations requiring large capacity where larger fish are involved, e.g. when grading or making deliveries.
The Vaki Biomass Counter employs infra-red optics for underwater size measurements, giving the user data on the average weight, the size distribution, growth, condition factor, number and biomass of the fish in pens. A simple but powerful Windows program enables the fish farmer to view the data at a glance and estimate the future growth and size distribution of the fish.
Vaki also supplies fish graders and pumps for the freshwater side of the aquaculture industry. With the powerful but gentle Heathro fish pump it is possible to pump juveniles from 0.2 g up to supersized smolt of 400 g. The grader is based on a revolutionary idea and the grading is done effectively and gently without any rollers or belts.
Fish counting in rivers
The RiverWatcher is a device for monitoring the fish in rivers and lakes. It provides data on the number, size and migratory direction of the fish, and also records the temperature of the water and the date and time of recording. Images of the individual fish are stored in the database, making it possible to test counts and even distinguish fish species if the recording conditions are sufficiently good. The device can be connected to a telephone and modem so that data can be read via a telephone line.
The new version includes an underwater camera witch is triggered by the scanner when a fish swims through, supplying digital images of every fish for recognition of species, sex and if the fish is wild or farmed.
